Shopee seller fees in Malaysia 2026: what you keep

The fees Shopee takes from a Malaysian Marketplace seller, what changed on 14 August 2026, and why your commission rate is so hard to find.

A cream-wrapped parcel tied with thin gold string on an ink-dark table, with a long paper receipt curling away from it across the surface.

Shopee seller fees in Malaysia come out of each completed order, never a monthly bill: a commission set by product category, a transaction fee of 3.78% including SST, and a Platform Support Fee of RM0.54. Commission rates changed on 14 August 2026. A brand-new seller pays neither commission nor the platform fee at first, so the same RM100 item can keep RM96.03 or RM77.77.

Key takeaways

  • Three charges per order. Commission by category, a 3.78% transaction fee on what the buyer pays including shipping, and RM0.54 per completed order (Shopee Malaysia).
  • Commission was revised on 14 August 2026 (Shopee Malaysia), and the Cashback Programme charges its own 5.94% service fee for a 2% to 3.5% commission discount.
  • You cannot read your own rate. Shopee publishes the commission tables as pictures, so your sub-category's rate is not text on anyone's page.
  • A new shop pays far less. No commission until 120 days after your first listing or 200 completed orders, and no Platform Support Fee for 60 days.
  • A return is not a reset. A refunded order still carries the courier's forward and return shipping, at 6% SST rather than 8%.

What does Shopee charge a seller in Malaysia?

Shopee seller fees in Malaysia are three charges on every completed order: commission at your sub-category's rate plus 8% SST, a transaction fee of 3.78% including SST, and a Platform Support Fee of RM0.54. Opening a shop and listing cost nothing — Shopee's Seller Education Hub states that "All local Marketplace sellers (Non-Shopee Mall sellers) get to enjoy 0% Registration Fee and 0% Listing Fee."

FeeCharged onRate

Platform Support FeeEvery completed order, whatever its sizeRM0.54 (RM0.50 plus 8% SST)
Unsuccessful order feeOrders approved for return or refundThe courier's forward and return shipping, plus 6% SST

The first three are not alternatives. Shopee's commission page is explicit that the commission stacks on top of the other two rather than replacing them:

"Yes, the Commission Fee is an additional fee chargeable on completed orders. Do note that this is in addition to the existing transaction fee and any applicable service fees."

Shopee Malaysia, Commission Fee

Two details move the sums. Shopee's transaction-fee page sets "A standard Transaction Fees of 3.5% is applicable for all payment methods except Credit Card Instalments, SPayLater and Special SPayLater" — 3.5% is that same fee before tax, 3.78% is what lands on the invoice, so a buy-now-pay-later order is charged differently. The same 8% service tax lands on Malaysian ad spend, as the Meta Ads Manager guide sets out.

Why can you not find your Shopee commission rate?

Because nobody publishes it as text. Shopee revised Marketplace and Mall commission on the same day, 14 August 2026, and both pages say to "refer to the table below" — where the table is a picture. Nor is it one number: it "will differ according to the cluster, category and sub-category of a stock keeping unit (SKU) sold on Shopee and seller's participation in the Shopee Cashback Programme."

The pages AI assistants quote inherit the problem. Zetpy, a Malaysian seller-tools company, covered the change properly and still ends at "Sellers can view the details on the official Shopee Marketplace Commission Fees page". EasyStore's guide reads current but was last updated 15 May 2025: it still has a 2.12% transaction fee, understating today's 3.78% by 44%, beside a 2.12% commission dated 19 January 2022.

The closest public number is cube.asia, which puts Malaysian non-Mall commission at 5.75% to 16.41% and the total mandatory take rate at 9.84% to 20.49% plus MYR 0.54 per order. Its table is stamped 1 August 2026, before the revision, and "Optional fees, such as those for free shipping or cashback campaigns, are not included."

Who pays no commission and no Platform Support Fee?

Two waivers, applied separately. A brand-new Marketplace shop pays no commission until 120 days after its first listing or 200 completed orders, and no Platform Support Fee for its first 60 days. Smaller established sellers keep the platform-fee waiver on order and sales thresholds, and daily essentials carry a standing commission exemption.

Who or what qualifiesWhat is waivedHow long
A brand-new Marketplace shopCommissionUntil 120 days after the first listing, or 200 completed orders, whichever comes first
A brand-new Marketplace shopPlatform Support FeeThe first 60 days after the first listing

Daily essentials: rice, flour, sugar, oil, eggs, meat, seafood and the rest of that listCommissionStanding exemption

"New" is narrow: a shop under the same NRIC or company number as an existing one does not qualify, and neither does a shop you took over. Beyond the new-shop waivers, Shopee's commission page describes a standing category-level easing:

"From 21 May 2026 onwards, more than 100 item categories will benefit from waived or reduced commission fees, helping you remain competitive in daily essentials while supporting continued demand in these categories."

Shopee Malaysia, Commission Fee

What do you keep on a RM100 Shopee sale?

Take a RM100 item with no discount and RM5.00 of shipping the buyer pays. The transaction fee is 3.78% of the RM105 they hand over, so RM3.97; the RM0.54 follows on delivery; commission is charged on the RM100 at your category's rate, plus 8% SST.

Established, high end of the cited bandRM17.72 (16.41% + SST)RM3.97RM0.54RM77.77

Commission range from cube.asia's non-Mall table; your own rate comes off your tax invoice. Those figures are before product, packing and any shipping you absorb, and the gap between the two rows is nothing but your SKU's sub-category. TikTok Shop's fees stack differently, and on your own storefront there is no commission at all: what an online store costs in Malaysia.

Which fees come back if the order is returned?

Not the shipping. A returned or refunded order becomes an unsuccessful order, and Shopee's fee page states that "there will be an unsuccessful order fee charged by the logistics partners which covers Forward Shipping Fee (FSF) and Return Shipping Fee (RSF)." Those are courier charges passed through, so the tax differs: "A rate of 6% SST will also be charged on Unsuccessful Order Fees (i.e. Forward Shipping Fee and Return Shipping Fee)."

Commission and the Platform Support Fee attach only to completed orders — "total paid orders that have been delivered to and accepted by the buyer", which "excludes cancelled or returned/refunded orders". A category with heavy returns pays twice: the margin you never earned, and two shipping legs.

Which optional programmes add a fee?

Three you will meet most often, and the largest is the one sellers join to save money. The Shopee Cashback Programme charges 5.5% before SST — 5.94% after, capped at RM108 per item — on every order, and 7.5% (8.10% after SST) on Campaign Days. Pre-order items cost 2% plus SST. Extra withdrawals cost RM0.12.

  • The Shopee Cashback Programme charges you to save commission. Shopee's service-fee page states that "a service fee of 5.5% capped at RM100 per item (subject to 8% SST) will be charged when an order is placed regardless of whether the Cashback Voucher has been utilised by the buyers" — 5.94% after SST, capped at RM108 per item. The programme's terms put it "on top of the prevailing transaction, service and commission fees". What it buys is smaller than it was: the discount fell from a flat 5% to "between 2% to 3.5%, depending on product category" on 14 August 2026, with 3% off the SCP fee for MSME sellers (200 orders or fewer, RM3,000 or less in sales). A 2% to 3.5% commission discount, set against a 5.94% fee.
  • Pre-order listings: 2% plus 8% SST on every completed pre-order item since 21 May 2026.
  • Withdrawals: three free a week, then "Additional withdrawals will incur a fee of RM0.12 per withdrawal" — taken from the withdrawal, not the order payout.

How do you check what Shopee actually charged you?

  1. Open Seller Centre, My Income, then My Tax Invoices: Shopee's own instruction is to "Refer to My Income > My Tax Invoices on Seller Centre to check the Commission Fee charged for all completed orders".
  2. Divide that invoice's commission line by your product price after your own discounts, then by 1.08 to strip the SST. That is your sub-category's rate — and if it is not the rate you assumed, your sub-category is not the one you assumed.
  3. Date every source you price from. The tables moved on 14 August 2026 and the guides that rank have not all caught up.

Fees decide your margin; being found decides whether there is a sale at all. Acclaira's founder, Dan, runs a free class on Zoom every Thursday evening on getting a Malaysian business found, on Google and in AI answers.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Shopee charge a seller in Malaysia?

Shopee charges per completed order, not per month: a commission set by product category (revised on 14 August 2026 and published only as an image), a transaction fee of 3.78% after SST on the final amount the buyer pays including shipping, and a Platform Support Fee of RM0.54 on every completed order. Optional programmes add more: the Shopee Cashback Programme charges a service fee of 5.5% before SST (5.94% after, capped at RM108 per item), and 7.5% on Campaign Days. Returns add the courier's forward and return shipping.

Do new Shopee sellers pay commission?

Not at first. A new local Marketplace seller is charged commission only after listing a first product for more than 120 days or passing 200 completed orders, whichever comes first, and the Platform Support Fee is waived for the first 60 days. A shop registered under the same NRIC or company number as an existing shop does not count as new.

Is there SST on Shopee seller fees?

Yes. Commission is subject to 8% SST, and the published transaction fee of 3.78% and Platform Support Fee of RM0.54 are the after-SST figures of 3.5% and RM0.50. Unsuccessful order fees are different: the forward and return shipping on a refunded order carry 6% SST.

What is the Shopee Platform Support Fee?

It is a flat RM0.50 plus 8% SST, so RM0.54, deducted from every completed order whatever its value. Marketplace sellers under 100 net orders in the last 30 days, or under 200 net orders with RM3,000 or less in sales, are exempt, and the status is rechecked on the 1st of each month.

Why can I not find the Shopee commission rate for my category?

Shopee publishes the Marketplace and Mall commission tables as images rather than text, and the rate varies by cluster, category, sub-category and whether you are in the Shopee Cashback Programme — which also charges its own service fee of 5.5% before SST, 5.94% after. The reliable number is the one on your own tax invoices under My Income in Seller Centre. For a public reference, cube.asia puts Malaysian non-Mall commission at 5.75% to 16.41%, in a table stamped 1 August 2026, before the 14 August revision.
