SEO price Malaysia 2026: what RM 1,500 to RM 5,000 a month buys

SEO price in Malaysia runs RM 1,500 to RM 5,000 a month. Ten providers compared, what each tier buys, the lock-in cost, and whether AI search is included.

What SEO costs in Malaysia, weighed against what the fee actually buys.

Most Malaysian SMEs are quoted RM 1,500 to RM 5,000 a month. That is the band two of the ten pricing pages we read publish outright, and one that every other page's range contains. Where you land inside that band is decided by four things: how competitive your keywords are, how large and how healthy your website is, whether you target one town or the whole country, and how much content and link work the fee covers.

Key takeaways

  • Ten Malaysian SEO pricing pages, all read on 1 September 2026, put the monthly range anywhere from RM 900 to RM 25,000 and above, with published outliers at RM 500 and RM 50,000 either side (GC Tech, February 2026; Specflux, March 2026). Seven of the ten set the floor at RM 1,500, and two put the market average near RM 3,000: both are our own counts across the ten pages listed below.
  • The contract is part of the price. Published minimum terms run from no lock-in to a 12-month subscription, so the same monthly fee can mean one month at risk or twelve (SEO Consultant Malaysia, July 2026; Aleph Media, January 2026).
  • Globally, a 2024 poll of 439 SEO service providers put the average at USD 2,917 a month, and found 78.2% of them bill a monthly retainer (Ahrefs).
  • At least eight of those ten Malaysian pricing pages mention AI search inside their SEO offer, under names like AI SEO, GEO, ChatGPT visibility or Google AI Overviews. By our count, only two of the ten put a price on it: SEO.COM.MY and Specflux.
  • Acclaira publishes its own number rather than asking you to enquire: RM 3,000 a month, a premium website built and hosted as part of the programme, month to month after a three-month minimum.

How much does SEO cost in Malaysia in 2026?

SEO in Malaysia costs most SMEs RM 1,500 to RM 5,000 a month in 2026. Below RM 1,000 a month, four of the ten guides read for this article warn against it. Above the band sit national, ecommerce and regulated-industry campaigns that run to RM 12,000 a month and beyond. One-off work is priced separately: an audit is typically RM 3,000 to RM 5,000, and a fixed-scope project runs from RM 1,000 upward.

We went looking for Malaysian SEO providers and guides that publish a real figure, and found ten. Every one of them was read on 1 September 2026, and RM 3,000 a month falls inside the range each one states. Read them as a group rather than one at a time. One point of vocabulary first: "Google SEO price" and "SEO price" mean the same thing in Malaysia, the fee to rank in Google's organic results. Neither includes Google Ads, which is a separate media spend paid to Google. The website itself is usually a separate line item too: we cover what a Malaysian SME website should cost elsewhere.

Malaysian prices are low by global standards. A 2024 Ahrefs poll of 439 SEO service providers worldwide put the average monthly cost at USD 2,917, with agencies averaging USD 3,209 and freelancers USD 1,348 (Ahrefs).

What does each price level actually buy?

Price buys scope. RM 900 to RM 2,500 a month buys Google Business Profile work, local citations and a small keyword set. RM 3,000 to RM 6,000 adds technical SEO, competitor research at scale, regular content and real link building. Above RM 6,000 you are paying for dedicated specialists, digital PR and large-scale content production. Below RM 1,000, four of the ten guides say do not buy.

Monthly spendWhat the guides publish at this levelWho it suits
RM 900 to RM 2,500Google Business Profile optimisation and local citations, a small keyword set and on-page optimisation, reviews and basic local content, monthly reportingSmall and local businesses
RM 3,000 to RM 6,000Technical SEO and ongoing fixes, keyword and competitor research at scale, regular content creation, on-page and internal linking, link building and monthly reportingGrowing SMEs
RM 6,000 to RM 12,000+Dedicated SEO specialists, digital PR and high-authority backlinks, large-scale content production, continuous optimisation and testing, advanced analytics and CRO alignmentNational brands, and highly competitive industries such as medical, legal and finance

Deliverables quoted from Media Plus Digital and iMarketing; GC Tech publishes a matching budget-tier list. All three read 1 September 2026. What sits below RM 1,000 a month is covered further down.

Note what GC Tech says is not in its RM 500 to RM 1,500 budget tier: content creation, link building, competitor analysis, a dedicated account manager and regular strategy calls. The cheapest tier is not a smaller version of the middle one. It is a different product.

How much does local SEO cost in Malaysia?

Local SEO in Malaysia runs from about RM 900 to RM 2,500 a month for a single-location business. Media Plus Digital publishes RM 900 to RM 2,500, VeecoTech RM 900 to RM 1,500, and Aleph Media reports monthly local SEO starting as low as RM 500. At this level you are buying Google Business Profile work, local citations, a small keyword set and a monthly report, not a national campaign.

For a Klang Valley business competing inside one town, that is often the right first purchase. Aleph Media also puts a one-time campaign to clean up and optimise a local listing at RM 1,300 to RM 6,600 and up, and prices freelance article writing at RM 250 to RM 850 a piece. Both are worth knowing before you agree to pay for anything monthly forever.

Why do two agencies quote RM 1,500 and RM 8,000 for the same website?

Because SEO is priced by workload. The Malaysian guides publish overlapping lists of the same cost drivers: industry competition, business goals, website condition and history, local versus national targeting, and how fast you want results (iMarketing). GC Tech adds the supply side: agency experience, team size, scope, tools and overheads.

In staffing terms that means a RM 1,500 a month agency might have one junior person handling 50 accounts, while a RM 6,000 a month agency might have a dedicated team for fewer clients. Newnormz reports quotes differing by RM 5,000 a month between two businesses for entirely legitimate reasons (Newnormz, July 2026). Specflux frames what a buyer should do about it.

"Don't compare agencies on price alone. Compare on deliverables per ringgit. A RM 4,500/month package with 4 articles, 10 backlinks, and monthly audits delivers more than a RM 3,000 package with vague 'optimization' and a PDF report." Stephen Paul Samynathan, Specflux, SEO Pricing Malaysia, March 2026

Should you pay monthly, per project, or by the hour?

A monthly retainer is the default for ongoing SEO, and a 2024 Ahrefs poll found 78.2% of providers worldwide bill that way (Ahrefs). Project and hourly pricing still have honest uses in Malaysia: a one-off audit at RM 3,000 to RM 5,000 diagnoses a website before you commit to anything, and hourly advice suits a business that already employs a marketing person and needs direction rather than execution.

Neither project nor hourly work has a single published rate, which is itself worth knowing. Hourly rates are published at RM 150 to RM 500 by Newnormz, RM 300 to RM 540 by Aleph Media and RM 300 to RM 800 by Media Plus Digital. One-off projects are quoted at RM 1,000 to RM 10,000 by Media Plus Digital, RM 2,000 to RM 6,000 by iMarketing and RM 3,000 to RM 15,000 by Newnormz.

Fixed monthly packages are how most of the ten pages above sell, and they are the model buyers should question hardest.

"Fixed packages often indicate templated, one-size-fits-all approaches." SEO Consultant Malaysia, SEO Pricing Malaysia, July 2026

Acclaira sells a fixed monthly package too, so take that quotation as a standard to hold us to rather than a swipe at anyone. Performance-based pricing, where you pay on results, is rarer: Media Plus Digital calls it rare, and risky when done badly, because it can push short-term tactics that hurt you later. If you have never bought SEO before, the safest sequence is an audit first, then a retainer once you know what is actually broken.

What does the contract add to the real price?

The minimum term is the hidden half of the price, and it is the number to ask for before the monthly fee. A RM 3,000 retainer on a 12-month minimum is a RM 36,000 decision. The same RM 3,000 on a six-month minimum is RM 18,000. Convert every quote into its total before you compare two of them.

ProviderPublished minimum termCommitted at RM 3,000 a month
SEO Consultant MalaysiaNo lock-inOne month at a time
SEO.COM.MY6 months, then month to monthRM 18,000
Specflux6 months, then month to month, 30 days' noticeRM 18,000
Typical on-site retainer per Aleph Media12 monthsRM 36,000
Acclaira3 months, then month to month, 30 days' noticeRM 9,000

Longer terms are not automatically a trap. SEO compounds, which is the honest case for a minimum term: SEO.COM.MY puts audits and fixes in months one and two and ranking movement in months three to six, which is why it asks for six. The trap is only ever the arithmetic: a cheaper monthly fee on a longer lock-in can cost more in total than a dearer fee you are free to leave.

Payback is the other half of that sum, and it is arithmetic you can do without anyone's help. Take the 3 to 6 month window that SEO Consultant Malaysia and SEO.COM.MY both publish. At RM 3,000 a month, that is RM 9,000 to RM 18,000 spent before either of those providers would expect you to be able to judge the work. Set that against what one new customer is worth to you over a year, and you have your own break-even instead of an agency's projection.

What should you ask before you sign?

Ask both providers the same six questions and put the answers side by side. The point of the exercise is to compare total committed spend and named deliverables rather than the monthly figure, because two quotes at the same monthly rate can commit you to very different totals and buy very different work.

  1. What is the minimum term, and what is the total committed spend across it?
  2. How many original articles or pages per month, and who writes them?
  3. How are links acquired, and will you name the type of placement?
  4. What is included for AI search, expressed as a deliverable rather than a promise?
  5. What does the monthly report contain, and does it tie to enquiries or only to rankings?
  6. What happens in month one, before any ranking could realistically move?

Is cheap SEO worth it in Malaysia?

Below roughly RM 1,000 a month, four of the ten guides warn against it: GC Tech, iMarketing, Digital Agency Reviews and SEO.COM.MY. Newnormz explains the arithmetic: quality SEO takes senior time, one specialist in Malaysia costs an agency several thousand ringgit a month, and a fee that cannot cover a few hours of that person is being automated or outsourced to the cheapest available labour.

iMarketing reports that packages under RM 1,000 a month usually rely on automated or spam backlinks, thin or duplicate content, and outdated techniques. The consequence is measurable in ringgit: GC Tech puts recovery from a Google penalty at RM 10,000 to RM 50,000 and up, over 6 to 18 months, and its own advice is to avoid services under RM 1,000 a month unless the job really is very basic local SEO.

That is not an argument against spending less. It is an argument against spending less on the wrong thing. Cheaper options that genuinely work do exist: claiming your Google Business Profile is free, a local-only campaign at RM 900 to RM 2,500 a month is a real product for a single-location business (Media Plus Digital), and a one-off audit tells you what is broken without signing a retainer at all. If your budget is genuinely small, buy a narrow scope done properly. We have written separately about where doing it yourself stops working.

Increasingly it is mentioned, but rarely priced. Eight of the ten Malaysian pricing pages read for this article mention AI search inside their SEO offer, using terms like AI SEO, GEO, ChatGPT visibility or Google AI Overviews. Only two of the ten attach a number to it.

SEO.COM.MY names an AI SEO line across its tiers, from FAQ and answer-first optimisation in its RM 1,200 package up to a dedicated RM 3,200 AI SEO tier. Specflux sells it as a separate one-time Search and AI Visibility Audit at RM 2,500. The other six mention it without pricing it.

This matters because a good Google ranking no longer carries you into AI answers automatically. Only about 38% of pages cited in Google AI Overviews also rank in the top 10 organic results, down from around 76% in July 2025 (Ahrefs, March 2026). The work that closes that gap is often called answer engine optimisation, or AEO, and it is a different job from classic ranking work: structured data, answer-first pages, consistent business facts across the web, and monitoring what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews actually say about you. We set out how AI-search work differs from classic SEO separately.

So when a quote says AI is included, ask which of those four it covers and how it is reported. We break the numbers down separately in what AI-search work costs as its own line item in Malaysia, and the warning signs are collected in how to choose an agency and the red flags.

Should an SEO agency guarantee rankings?

No provider can guarantee a Google ranking or an AI citation, because none of them controls what Google or an AI system decides to show. Malaysian firms take both positions publicly. SEO.COM.MY publishes a page-one keyword guarantee, brand-name keywords excluded, or it keeps working free until achieved. iMarketing lists guaranteed rankings among the things that should make you walk away.

Both are real positions held by real Malaysian firms, and both are published in full, which is more than most of this market offers. Acclaira takes iMarketing's view.

What does Acclaira charge, and why publish it at all?

Acclaira's programme is RM 3,000 a month. It includes a premium website built and hosted as part of the programme and the AI SEO work itself, and it runs month to month after a three-month minimum, cancellable with 30 days' notice from month three. That is RM 9,000 committed, half the six-month term two of the providers above require, and the domain is registered in the client's name.

RM 3,000 is deliberately not a low number. It sits at the market average that two of the ten pages, Specflux and Newnormz, identify. What changes is what is bundled: a website that would otherwise be a separate build, and the answer-engine work that eight of the ten pages above mention but only two put a price on. There is no ranking guarantee and no promised timeline, because neither would be honest. On timing, SEO Consultant Malaysia publishes a 3 to 6 month results window, and we set out how long this work actually takes separately.

We publish our own work rather than describe it, in the DNE Logistics case study and the Carriera case study. If you want a baseline before any retainer, our AI-search readiness audit is free and scores a site 0 to 100.

Whatever you decide to spend, the question is not who is cheapest but what each ringgit buys, and whether the provider will put that in writing before you sign.

How much does SEO cost per month in Malaysia?
Most Malaysian SMEs pay RM 1,500 to RM 5,000 a month, with the market average near RM 3,000. Local-only campaigns start around RM 900, and national, ecommerce or regulated-industry campaigns run from RM 6,000 to RM 12,000 and beyond. That budget buys Google Business Profile work, local citations and a small keyword set.
Is SEO under RM 1,000 a month worth it?
Four of the ten guides warn against it: GC Tech, iMarketing, Digital Agency Reviews and SEO.COM.MY. Newnormz explains that quality SEO takes senior time and one Malaysian specialist costs an agency several thousand ringgit a month, while iMarketing reports that packages under RM 1,000 usually rely on automated backlinks and thin content. GC Tech puts penalty recovery at RM 10,000 to RM 50,000 and up.
