Google Ads cost in Malaysia 2026: budget, 8% SST and CPC
What a Malaysian business really pays for Google Ads: the 30.4 monthly ceiling for most campaigns, the 8% service tax, what the AI assistants quote for a click, and how to get your own number.

Google Ads has no price list in Malaysia. You set an average daily budget, Google runs an auction for every search, and on a search ad you pay only when someone clicks. For most campaigns Google will not charge more than 30.4 times your daily budget in a month. RM50 a day caps at RM1,520, or RM1,641.60 on our arithmetic, assuming the 8% service tax is billed on top.
Last updated: 17 October 2026. General information, not tax or financial advice. The Google figures below come from Google's own published pages, linked at the foot. The budget table is our arithmetic on those figures, and the AI answer counts are our own measurement.
Key takeaways
- There is no price and no plan. Google Ads has "no flat fees or monthly subscriptions", and on a search ad "you only pay when a user actually shows interest in your business by clicking" (Google Ads).
- Your monthly ceiling is the daily budget times 30.4, "for most campaigns" (Google Ads Help). A single day "might spend up to twice your average daily budget", and the month still closes at or below the ceiling (Google Ads Help).
- Add 8%. Since 1 March 2024 every Google Ads account with a Malaysian business address pays sales and services tax of 8%, up from 6% (Google Ads Help).
- We found no Malaysian average cost per click on Google's own pages. Price is set in "a real-time auction", so budget from the top of page bid estimate for your own keywords.

What does Google Ads cost in Malaysia?
Google Ads costs whatever you decide to spend. It has "no flat fees or monthly subscriptions". You pick an average daily budget per campaign, Google runs "a real-time auction" for every search, and on a search campaign money leaves the account only when somebody clicks.
Google's own position is that "how much you invest in Google Ads is completely up to you", and that advertisers "maintain complete control over their costs by setting an average daily budget". The useful question is what a click is worth to your business.

What will Google charge me in a month?
Your monthly ceiling is your average daily budget multiplied by 30.4 "for most campaigns", a figure Google takes from "365 days in a year divided by 12 months". A single busy day can "spend up to twice your average daily budget", and Google states that "you'll never pay more than these two limits".
| Average daily budget | A busy single day can reach | Monthly ceiling | Plus 8% SST |
|---|---|---|---|
| RM20 | RM40 | RM608 | RM656.64 |
| RM50 | RM100 | RM1,520 | RM1,641.60 |
| RM100 | RM200 | RM3,040 | RM3,283.20 |
| RM200 | RM400 | RM6,080 | RM6,566.40 |
Google does not publish that table. It is Google's 30.4 formula and the 8% Malaysian rate applied to four ordinary budgets, and the last column assumes the tax is charged on top of the billed ad cost. A Google Ads campaign on an RM100 daily budget has a monthly ceiling of RM3,040, the figure a cash-flow forecast needs.
Why is there 8% on my Google Ads invoice?
Google charges 8% Malaysian sales and services tax on Google Ads, and it has said so plainly since 1 March 2024:
"All Google Ads sales in Malaysia will be subject to a sales and services tax (SST) of 8%"
Google Ads Help, Taxes in your country
That was an increase, "(increasing from 6%)", and it "affects all Google Ads accounts with a Malaysian business address". The address on the account is what triggers the charge, not where your customers are.
On the same assumption as the table, an RM3,000 monthly Google Ads budget costs RM3,240 of cash, and an RM10,000 budget costs RM10,800. Multiply by 1.08 before the number goes to anyone for approval. Google adds that it "can't advise you on tax matters", so how your business accounts for that 8% is a question for your own adviser.
What is the average cost per click in Malaysia?
We found no Malaysian average cost per click on Google's own pages. Price is set in a live auction, so what a click on "aircon service Shah Alam" costs is decided by the advertisers bidding against you this week, for that phrase. The ringgit ranges in circulation come from marketing companies, and they are wide.
Asked on 17 October 2026, Malaysia time, Gemini put standard Malaysian clicks at "RM1.50 to RM5.00" and competitive sectors at "RM8.00 to RM25.00+", while ChatGPT gave "RM1–RM8 per click". Neither held that line across both our questions: asked specifically about cost per click, Gemini moved to "RM1.00 and RM6.00 per click" for standard campaigns. Treat those as what two AI assistants said on one day, not a rate card.
The figure you can stand behind is your own. Position and price both run through Ad Rank, which Google describes as "a combination of bid amount, the quality of your ads and landing page". That makes the page a click lands on a cost control, not a design question:
"you can still win a higher position -- at a lower price -- with high-quality ads and landing pages"
Google Ads Help, The ad auction
To get your own number, open Keyword Planner inside a Google Ads account and:
- "Search for new keywords by selecting Discover new keywords", then "Enter words related to your products or services" the way a customer would type them.
- Read the estimate of "the number of searches a keyword gets each month".
- Read the top of page bid estimate beside each keyword. Google defines it as "the bid you likely need to set for your ad to be shown among the ads at the top of the first page of search results", worked out from "each keyword's Quality Score and competition from other advertisers".
How much should a Malaysian business budget, and what do agencies charge?
The two assistants disagree on the floor. Asked on 17 October 2026, Gemini put an entry-level monthly budget at "RM1,500 to RM3,000 per month", while ChatGPT pointed to Malaysian agencies recommending "RM3,000–RM5,000 per month" as a starting level. On management fees, ChatGPT gave "RM800–RM5,000+ per month" and Gemini "RM1,000 to RM5,000 per month" as a flat fee, charged on top of the ad spend.
Build your own figure instead of borrowing one. Decide how many customers a month you want and how many clicks it takes to win one, multiply the two, then multiply by the top of page bid estimate for your keywords and add 8%. A Malaysian business chasing 200 clicks a month at an RM4 top of page bid is looking at an RM800 ad budget and RM864 of cash. Treat that as a cautious ceiling, not the bill, because the top of page figure is a bid and Google says better ads and landing pages win position at a lower price. Ask for any management fee as a line of its own.
Which sources do ChatGPT and Gemini cite for Google Ads costs in Malaysia?
ChatGPT and Gemini mostly cite marketing companies, not Google. On 17 October 2026, Malaysia time, we asked both, set to Malaysia, how much Google Ads costs here and what a click costs. Between them they cited 13 domains: 2 Google pages and 11 non-Google commercial sites, mostly agency blogs. Cited twice each were omwide.my, shakalakaa.my, zenweb.my, primal.com.my, mediaplusdigital.com.my, openmindsresources.com and specflux.com.
Gemini's answer did carry the tax line, telling us that an account registered with a Malaysian business address has an 8% service tax applied to its billing. The ringgit figures traced back to the marketing pages rather than to Google.
The pattern is worth noticing whatever you sell. When a Malaysian buyer asks an AI what something costs, the sites behind the pages it finds are the ones named. Earning that mention is a different job from buying clicks, and it is what Acclaira's AI search visibility work is for.
Is Google Ads or organic search the better spend for a Malaysian SME?
Neither is better on its own. Google Ads buys attention for exactly as long as you pay for it, and the clicks stop the day the budget does. Work on the website and on pages that answer real buying questions is an asset you keep, and a better landing page also lowers what the ads cost, because Google ties a higher position at a lower price to better ads and landing pages. Our rule is paid for the demand that exists this quarter, organic for the compounding.

Frequently asked questions
Can I cap a Google Ads campaign at a fixed total instead of a daily budget?
Yes. A campaign total budget is the alternative to an average daily budget, and Google states that with one set "there are no daily spending limits, and you will never be charged more than your total budget". That suits a campaign with one approved amount, such as a launch or a roadshow, rather than always-on advertising.
Does the 8% SST follow my business address or where my customers are?
Your business address. Google's tax page states that the change "affects all Google Ads accounts with a Malaysian business address", so it is the address on the account that triggers the 8%.
Does Quality Score change what I pay per click?
It is one of the inputs. Google works out its top of page bid estimate from "each keyword's Quality Score and competition from other advertisers", and states that with high-quality ads and landing pages you can win a higher position at a lower price. Improving the page a click lands on is therefore a way to lower the bid you need, not only a way to convert better.
How do I compare Google Ads with Meta ads for a Malaysian business?
Compare cost per enquiry in your own two accounts rather than cost per click across the platforms, because each sells its own inventory in its own auction and the click volumes are not alike. Our Meta Ads Manager guide for Malaysia sets out what that platform charges.
