03 · How we work

How we work.

I

Partner-led, always.

Your matter is led by a partner from the first call to the final filing. You will never be handed to a trainee to learn on your problem.

II

Fixed-fee clarity.

We quote a fixed fee wherever the scope allows — so you can commit to a transaction or a dispute without a billing clock running in the background.

III

Plain English, not Latin.

We translate the complexity. Our advice is direct and written in language your board can act on — not a position paper designed to limit our liability.

05 · Before you instruct us

What to expect.

How does an engagement begin?

We start with a 30-minute consultation — by phone, video or in person at our Level 28 office. We use that time to understand the matter, confirm there is no conflict of interest, and give you a clear view of what is involved and what it will cost before you commit to anything.

How are fees structured — fixed or hourly?

We quote fixed fees wherever the scope is reasonably defined: most transactional work (sale and purchase, facility agreements, share deals), standard will and trust engagements, and certain employment advisory retainers. We move to hourly billing for litigation and arbitration, where duration is inherently uncertain, and for open-ended advisory work. We always tell you which applies before we begin and provide a written estimate.

How do you check for conflicts of interest?

Before accepting any new instruction we run a conflict search across our client register. If a conflict is identified we will tell you promptly and, where appropriate, suggest firms who may be able to assist. We do not act for both sides in a transaction or dispute.

What does a first consultation cover?

The initial consultation covers the facts you bring us, a preliminary legal view, an outline of the options available, and — where we can — an indicative fee range. There is no obligation to instruct us after the consultation. We charge a modest fixed consultation fee, credited in full against our invoice if you proceed.

How is confidentiality protected?

All instructions are subject to strict solicitor-client privilege and our obligations under the Legal Profession Act. We maintain appropriate technical and administrative safeguards for document storage and communication. We will never disclose your matter to a third party without your written authority, except where required by law.
