03 · How it works

01

Free site assessment

We visit your property, measure roof orientation and shading, review your TNB bills, and model your optimal system size — at no cost and no obligation.

02

Design & permitting

Our engineers produce a full system layout, submit your NEM application to Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and handle all SEDA registration paperwork.

03

Installation day

A certified crew mounts the panels, installs the inverter, and runs final electrical checks — typically completed in one day for residential systems.

04

TNB inspection & go-live

We coordinate the TNB meter swap and bi-directional meter installation. Once approved, your system is live and selling excess energy back to the grid under NEM.

04 · The case for solar

Clear economics, measurable returns.

Solar in Selangor makes financial sense today — not because of subsidies, but because of Malaysia's consistent sunshine, falling panel costs, and the NEM framework.

Net Energy Metering (NEM)

Under Malaysia's NEM programme, excess electricity your system generates is exported to the TNB grid and credited against your bill — one-for-one at the same rate you buy it. During the day your panels run your home and sell the surplus; at night you draw from the grid, and your credit offsets the cost. No battery required for the economics to work.

Real monthly savings

A 6 kWp system on a typical Selangor semi-D produces around 700 kWh per month. At Domestic tariff (RM 0.365/kWh for the first 300 kWh block and above), that translates to RM 255 of direct savings or NEM credits per month — without changing a single light bulb.

Financing options

Solar is now accessible through green hire-purchase via CIMB, Public Bank, and Maybank — 5-to-7-year terms at 2.88–3.88% p.a. effective rate. Monthly repayments on a 6 kWp system are typically lower than the bill savings it delivers from month one, making it cash-flow positive from day one.

Selangor Green Lane

Approved NEM projects qualify for Selangor Green Incentive — up to RM 3,000 rebate for residential systems.

06 · Common questions

Straight answers on solar.

How much can I realistically save on my electricity bill?

For a typical Selangor semi-D with a monthly bill of RM 350–500, a 6 kWp system saves RM 200–360 per month through direct consumption offset and NEM credits. Actual savings depend on your daytime usage profile — households that use more electricity in the daytime (work-from-home, etc.) see higher direct savings. We model this precisely from your last 12 months of TNB bills during the free assessment.

Is my roof suitable for solar?

Most pitched roofs in Selangor are suitable. The key factors are orientation (south or west-facing is optimal), shading from trees or adjacent buildings, and structural load capacity. Our engineers assess all of this during the free site survey. Flat concrete roofs can use racking systems to achieve the optimal tilt angle.

What is NEM and how does it work in Malaysia?

Net Energy Metering (NEM) is a programme under the Malaysian Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) that allows your solar system to export excess electricity to the TNB grid and receive a credit at the same rate you pay for electricity. The credit rolls over each month and reduces your next bill. You apply once — Helios handles the entire NEM application and TNB liaison process.

What maintenance does a solar system need?

Solar panels have no moving parts and require very little maintenance. Rinsing with water two or three times a year removes dust and bird droppings that can reduce output by 5–10%. The inverter has an expected service life of 10–12 years. We provide a remote monitoring app so you can track daily generation and flag any unusual drop in output.

Can I finance the system instead of paying upfront?

Yes — green hire-purchase is available through CIMB, Maybank, and Public Bank at 2.88–3.88% p.a. effective over 5–7 years. For a 6 kWp system at RM 22,000, the monthly repayment is around RM 300–340 — often lower than the monthly savings the system generates. We assist with the loan application and documentation.
