The shop, opened

Ashelf for every kind of reader — curated by people who read, not algorithms that trend.

Since 2013 we have kept a single shop in Bangsar for browsers, gift-givers, and anyone after the book they did not know they needed. Pull a chair into the reading nook. Stay as long as the story holds you.

Our story

Opened in 2013 with 400 titles and no plan to stop.

Co-founder

Folio started as a shelf in Rosnah's living room — 400 books she had read and wanted to share. When her son Danial suggested turning it into a shop, she thought he was joking. That was 2013. The joke now has 6,000 titles and a loyal enough community that we have never once been tempted by a second location.

We are a single-location shop in Bangsar because we believe the best bookshops know their customers by name. We stock what we love, what our community asks for, and what we think deserves to be in more hands. We do not carry everything — and we are proud of that.

“A bookshop should feel like a conversation you did not know you needed. We try to be that, every day.”

— Rosnah Hisham, Founder

Before you visit

Questions we hear at the counter.

Can I ask you to hold a book before I come in?

Yes — WhatsApp us the title and we will hold it for five working days at no charge. We can also check if a title is in stock before you make the trip.

Do you have gift cards?

We do. Physical gift cards in denominations of RM 50, RM 100 and RM 200 are available in-store. They do not expire, and they can be used on any purchase including stationery.

How do I reserve a spot at an event?

For ticketed events (like workshops) just WhatsApp us and we will put your name on the list. Author talks and book clubs are drop-in — show up any time, bring a friend.

What is in the children's section?

Picture books, early readers, middle-grade fiction, and young adult titles. We carry both English and Malay titles. Story Hour runs every Saturday morning at 10 AM for ages 3 to 8 — no booking needed.

Do you offer trade discounts for schools or libraries?

We offer a 15 % discount on orders of 10 or more copies of the same title for registered schools, libraries and reading clubs. Get in touch and we will sort out the details.

Where exactly are you, and what are your opening hours?

Ground floor, 18 Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru, 59100 Kuala Lumpur — a two-minute walk from the Bangsar LRT. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 9 PM. Closed Mondays.

Still have a question? WhatsApp the shop — we answer within the hour during opening hours.
