Questions we
hear most often.
How does the trial lesson work?
Your trial is a full 30-minute lesson — not a tour or a sales meeting. A teacher will assess your level, introduce the first concepts or revisit your current repertoire, and give you an honest recommendation on where to begin. You pay RM 60 for the trial; if you enrol within 7 days, that amount is credited toward your first term's fees.
Does my child need to sit for ABRSM examinations?
No. The graded syllabus guides how we teach, but examinations are always the student's and parent's choice. Many of our students enjoy years of consistent lessons without sitting a formal exam. For those who do want to examine, we prepare thoroughly — exam fees are paid separately to ABRSM.
Do I need to buy an instrument before starting?
For the first month or two, you do not. We encourage families to practise at home as soon as possible, but we understand that purchasing a piano is a significant decision. Our teachers will advise you on appropriate options — from a quality entry-level digital piano to an upright — once your child has settled into lessons. For strings students, instrument hire can be arranged through the academy.
What happens at the termly recitals?
Recitals are held at the end of each 10-week term in our main studio. Every student is invited to perform one or two pieces at their current level — there is no audition or selection. We keep the atmosphere warm and celebratory rather than competitive. Families are welcome to attend and record. Participation is encouraged but never compulsory.
What if my child misses a lesson due to illness?
We allow one make-up lesson per term for absences notified at least 24 hours in advance. Make-up lessons are scheduled during the same term subject to teacher availability. Lessons cancelled without notice or last-minute cannot be made up, as the teacher's time has been reserved. We keep this policy consistent and fair for all students.
Do you teach adults who have never played before?
Absolutely — adults are some of our most motivated students. There is no upper age limit and no awkwardness about starting from scratch as a grown-up. Many of our adult beginners progress to Grade 3 or Grade 4 within two to three years of weekly lessons. We simply adjust the pace and repertoire to suit adult learning patterns.
